COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY
Collagen Therapy, also referred to as Microneedling, is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation treatment that helps promote a youthful, tighter appearance by stimulating Collagen regrowth. The skin also feels smoother and tighter. It decreases pore size, reduces fine lines and wrinkles putting more emphasis on the under eye area where lasers cannot be reached. It also treats acne scars, UV damage and age spots. Microneedling is a safe, chemical-free method that can be preformed on all skin types and colors.
The treatment involves the use of a DermaPen that uses a sterile single-use disposable needle tip. The adjustable needle depths allow you to customize a treatment program for specific skin problems and aggressiveness, unlike the Dermal Roller.
First, the skin is cleansed and numbing cream is applied for 35 to 40 minutes. This minimizes any discomfort. The more sensitive areas are mostly the round bony or thin areas such as forehead, lips and eyes. The process typically takes less than 40 minutes, and afterward, your skin can be somewhat red, similar to a sunburn. It takes only a couple of days for skin to look fairly normal, but results gradually become apparent.
Natural collagen regrowth happens over weeks and months, it is not an instant fix, but your skin will be much improved over the long term. If you are planning on having any microneedling treatments it’s best not to plan any social plans afterwards since the slight redness takes a few days to subside.
The texture and tone of the skin improve with multiple treatments. Generally a minimum of three treatments are required to achieve the optimum results of an area. When treating acne scarring, at least five to six treatments would generally be required. The treatments are preformed five to six weeks apart. Regular maintenance treatments keep the skin looking beautiful and youthful.
The new collagen produced by CIT lasts for a long time, unless the skin is further damaged by sun exposure, smoking, or other external factors. As the skin ages, some of the new collagen will also age. The duration of results will vary from person to person but should last for years as long as you take proper care of your skin.
- -The treatment should not be preformed within two weeks of having Dermal Fillers or Botox.
- -Treatment should never be preformed on raised moles, warts or lesions.
- -If you are pregnant.
- -The treatment will not be preformed if there is active acne breakouts, however, once acne has cleared treatment can be done after two weeks.
